Founded in 1980, the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) is a nationally-recognized multidisciplinary educational institution that reclaims, preserves, and interprets the history of Chinese and their descendants through its exhibitions, public programs, gallery/walking tours, and library/archives. MOCA is currently expanding into its new facilities designed by Maya Lin, at 215 Centre Street, scheduled to open in spring 2009.

 

Job Opening(s): Per Diem Museum Docent

Position(s) Available: Rolling

 

The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) seeks per diem Museum Docents to conduct guided educational programs.

 

General Responsibilities:
The Museum Educator will teach and facilitate interactive, exhibition-based Gallery Programs in the museum, conduct school outreach programs and/or lead Chinatown Walking Tours for a wide range of audiences.

 

Qualifications:
•Excellent communication skills.
•Be comfortable speaking before groups of people of all ages.
•Willingness to learn and interact with a diverse public.
•Must be willing to work flexible hours.
•Attend training workshops as required.
•Experience working in an educational setting (museum or classroom), a plus.
•Background in Asian American/Chinese American/American Social History, a plus.

 

This position is part-time on an as-needed basis.
