Director for Strategic Partnerships

The Museum of Chinese in America is seeking an experienced Director for Strategic Partnerships to lead the relationships and drive the strategy within the Museum’s earned revenue area. The Director is a valued and critical member of the Museum leadership team. S/he will provide executive leadership for increasing sales and earned income across MOCA’s operations, including MOCA tourism, MOCA Shop, MOCA rentals, and MOCA special events as well as enhance the MOCA brand, reputation, and growth in the market. The Director will be responsible for driving integration and alignment among all earned revenue-related areas. The Director will also lead short- and long-term relationship planning for customers, partners, and members. This position works closely with the President to create a comprehensive development strategy.

 

The Director for Strategic Partnerships is a senior level position that will represent MOCA and manage its relationships with for-profit, public, and private entities, government agencies, and other key constituent groups, seeking opportunities to build partnerships and further the accomplishment of MOCA’s strategic objectives.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Provide vision, leadership and strategies for earned revenue across the organization;
  • Work closely with the MOCA team to develop comprehensive, thoughtful, successful strategies to expand the Museum’s earned revenue opportunities, including the establishment of metrics, working models, and iterations where necessary;
  • Provide leadership and management oversight to enhance the MOCA brand and reputation, maximize current revenue opportunities, lead the charge for new opportunities, align marketing and sales functions to revenue strategy across all MOCA opportunities;
  • Actively participate in the development of annual, two-year and long-term plans;
  • Work with the President on matters relating to the MOCA Board and Committees;
  • Represent MOCA and manage its relationships with for-profit, public, and private entities, government agencies, and other key constituent groups, seeking opportunities to build partnerships and further MOCA’s strategic objectives;
  • Provide overall direction for placing, training, supervising and motivating assigned staff, interns, volunteers and fellows. Ensure compliance with MOCA policies and procedures;
  • When necessary, represent MOCA and attend local, regional, national and international conferences of museum professional organizations;
  • Work collaboratively across departments (Exhibitions, Public Programs, Education, Collections, Visitor Services, and Operations). Supervise volunteers and interns, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • An MBA or advanced degree in marketing or a related area is preferred. A BA degree or equivalent in business administration, marketing or related area with extensive experience in these fields is also acceptable.
  • Successful and progressive sales experience. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple revenue generating functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve revenue targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple revenue generating functions.
  • Broad knowledge of museum trends and marketing.
  • Ability to work with the MOCA team, MOCA Board members, and broad range of constituents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead and work as a member of a team.
  • Mastery of supervisory skills and the ability to manage activities through others.
  • Ability to identify, interpret and apply appropriate laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in InDesign, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Flexibility in attending membership/development or museum events on evenings or weekends
