Education Internship Positions – Summer/Fall 2012

Education Department

MOCA is currently seeking four unpaid Education Interns in three specific areas for Summer/Fall 2012.


General Education Intern


The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) is currently seeking 2 part-time General Education Interns to support our onsite school/group programs and off site school/group programs. Ideal candidates will be available 2 – 3 days per week from May to October. This internship requires a 5 to 6 month long commitment.


Qualifications:

  • Experience working in youth development and /or teaching elementary, middle, or high school students
  • Comfortable public speaking
  • Demonstrated interest in education

Families Programming Intern
 

The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) seeks 1 part-time intern to assist with program development for our family audience. Ideal candidates will be available 2 – 3 days per week from May to October. This internship requires a 5 to 6 month long commitment.


Qualifications:

  • Background working with families in an out-of-school/museum setting and/or pre-school setting, and exposure to education learning theories
  • Comfortable public speaking

Education Design Intern

 

The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) seeks 1 part-time intern to assist with the graphic design and production of print and online education materials for a wide range of audience members. Ideal candidates will be available 1– 2 days per week from June to August.


Qualifications:

  • Background working with youth and exposure to education learning theories
  • Strong graphic and web design skills/Extensive knowledge of Adobe Design programs (including Photoshop, Illustrator and In Design)

General Responsibilities of all Education Internships:

  • Lead group tours and programs
  • Curriculum development
  • Assist with children and family programs
  • General day-to-day operations of Education Department
  • General office duties required (e.g. copying, mailing, faxing)

General Qualifications for all Education Internships:

  • An established interest in a career in museum education
  • Experience working with school or family audiences
  • Excellent organizational skills and an eye for details
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An interest in Asian American Studies /Chinese American History
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment; handle multiple tasks at once; adhere to deadlines
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
