Public Programs and Museum Experience Intern

There are three distinct internship opportunities available in this department. Under the supervision and training of the Public Programs and Museum Experience staff in the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), the Public Programs and Museum Experience intern will assist with various public programs and special projects.

1. Public Programs Intern

 

Responsibilities
• Assist with the planning, research, development and implementation of programs for a diverse audience, including but not limited to talks, performances, film screenings and special projects.
• Create marketing materials for upcoming programs, such as e-blasts, website text, flyers, etc.
• Assist with outreach for upcoming public programs.
• Assist with day-of-event program coordination.

 

Qualifications
• Excellent organizational skills and an eye for details
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment; handle multiple tasks at once; adhere to deadlines
• Experience with or interest in event production is preferred
• An interest in Asian American Studies /Chinese American History
• Proficiency in Adobe Design programs is a plus
• Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
 

2. Social Media Intern
 

Responsibilities
• Help monitor all MOCA Social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
• Track and compile interaction metrics
• Create and manage content calendars and content itself
• Tell the MOCA story in an engaging, fun, and shareable way

 

Qualifications
• Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment; handle multiple tasks at once; adhere to deadlines
• Exercise sound judgement when engaging with followers
• Experience supporting social media accounts in a professional environment with consumer facing channels/messages
• Knowledge of social media platform usage guidelines, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, and twitter.
• Experience with photography and photo editing a plus.
• Excellent written communication skills
• Must be available to help during a majority of public programs on evenings and weekends as required
 

3. Public Events Interns
 

Responsibilities
• Working as part of the public programs team to produce events for the museum
• Help manage all setup and execution of the event (i.e. run of show, check-in, setup, etc.)
• Collaborate and communicate with the team to ensure brand alignment and successful outcomes.

 

Qualifications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and an eye for details
• Ability to work independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment; handle multiple tasks at once; adhere to deadlines
• Must be a flexible and creative problem solver
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be available to help during a majority of public programs on evenings and weekends as required
