MOCA - Call for Volunteers!


MOCA Visitor Experience Tour Guide Program:

The Museum of Chinese in America is excited to share its pilot Visitor Experience Tour Guide Program, a 9-month volunteer opportunity to lead guided tours of the museum’s exhibits and to help in special events. Visitor Experience Tour Guides will play a vital role in bringing the museum to life for visitors in addition to making the exhibits accessible for multi-lingual guests.


Come join the MOCA team and learn the intimate history of the museum and its exhibits!


Not a History Major? No Problem!


Program participants will receive an orientation and training: a total of 8-hours with museum staff over 2-days to give you an in-depth overview of the MOCA, our mission, and the exhibits. Training days will be flexible.


The commitment: Guides are asked to commit to 20 volunteer hours over the course of the program. Tours will be scheduled on weekends initially, and are usually 20-30 minutes long with ample time for breaks. Special events are usually 1-2 hours and can be scheduled on weekends or weekdays according to availability.


The ideal Visitor Experience Tour Guide volunteer:
- An advocate for MOCA, believes in the museum’s mission and is looking for a creative way to give back to the community
- Comfortable working and communicating with the public and in front of groups (this is also a great opportunity to work on your public speaking!)
- Multilingual, the museum is currently looking for Mandarin and Cantonese speakers but this program is open to all. We hope to expand our tour language offerings in the future.
