PAST PROGRAMS

For kids and teens ages 12-19 who love fashion or simply making things themselves, participants will get an up-close look at selected garments and accessories featured in the museum's Shanghai Glamour and Front Row exhibitions, and then use their experiences as inspiration for their own original accessories. At the end of the workshop, each participant's work will be photographed and included in a DIY DAY online look book on MOCA’s Tumblr. Everyone can bring home their own DIY accessories.

 

Fee: $15/participant, $8/MOCA member.

DIY with Lesley Ware + Swarovski Elements
Saturday, July 27, 2013
11am-3:30pm

 

Lesley Ware, an experienced crafter and fashion blogger, will lead this teen workshop. The DIY session will commence with an introduction on the elements of design, followed by hand sewing instruction. Next, Lesley will have participants sketch their ideas out on paper. During the final stage of the workshop, participants will be guided through the hands-on process of making various accessories including box braid earrings, hex nut bracelets, and belts. We're partnering with Swarovski Elements to make this session extra-glitzy!

 

   

 

About Lesley Ware:
Lesley Ware, founder of The Creative Cookie, is a New York-based fashion blogger, creative instructor, artist, zinemaker, and former nonprofit program manager. This year, Lesley received a nomination for DailyCandy’s Street Style Awards 2013. She is currently writing her first book about sewing and style for girls 8-13.

DIY with Amanda Kocis + Swarovski Elements

This teen workshop led by fashion blogger and DIY designer Amanda Kocis will focus on upcycling materials to make punk-inspired and edgy accessories. Participants will have the opportunity to draw inspiration from MOCA’s exhibitions and get guidance on how to use materials such as leather, metal chains, and safety pins to make earrings, necklaces, collars, rings, and bracelets. We're partnering with Swarovski Elements to make this session extra-glitzy!

 

 

 

About Amanda Kocis:
Amanda Kocis has worked with high-profile brands including Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Swatch & Diesel and is currently working at GLOSSYBOX. She is a champion of DIY projects and contributes actively to the crafting scene. Amanda runs HocusKocis, a personal blog that focuses on DIY, crafts and lifestyle. She graduated with a Bachelor of Specialized Studies Degree in Marketing Design from Ohio University and is now based in New York.
