The Momenta Quartet: "Chinese Composers Elsewhere"

The Momenta Quartet and the International Society for Contemporary Music co-produce MOCA's first ever classical contemporary concert, “Chinese Composers Elsewhere.

 

 

World premiere of:

 

Chong Kee Yong: "Yun Yong" (Clouds surging): String Quartet no. 4 (2011) for the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress, and dedicated to the memory of Serge and Natalie Koussevitzky

&

Jason Kao Hwang: If We Live in Forgetfulness, We Die in a Dream (2011)

 

The night will feature League Chamber Player Stephanie Griffin along with her fellow Momenta Quartet musicians Emilie-Anne Gendron, Asmira Woodward-Page, and Michael Haas, as well as quartets and music for solo strings by Chinese Canadian composer Melissa Hui and Chinese American composer Huang Ruo.


 

Described by Time Out New York as “an outstanding ensemble prone to innovation and exploration,” the Momenta Quartet (Emilie-Anne Gendron and Asmira Woodward-Page, violins; Stephanie Griffin, viola; and Michael Haas, cello) has premiered over 50 works since 2004 and has collaborated with over 70 living composers.
 

A panel discussion with Kee Yong Chong, Huang Ruo, Jason Kao Hwang and the Momenta Quartet will take place at intermission.
 

Admission: $15/adult, $10/student & senior. Free for MOCA member.
