Tina Chen’s great-grandfather served under three emperors and one empress in the Qing dynasty. Her grandfather became the first Premier of the first Republic of China, and her mother, after fleeing to Taiwan during the war, took on secret work that she had to hide from her husband. Join MOCA in uncovering three generations of Tina’s family legacy and their contributions to the history of China.

 

Tina Chen is a Golden Globe Award, Emmy Award, and Drama Desk Award nominee. Her film credits include Tom Gries’ The Hawaiians (opposite Charlton Heston), which earned her the Golden Globe Award nomination; Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor (opposite Robert Redford); Arthur Penn’s Alice’s Restaurant (opposite Arlo Guthrie); and Bertha Bay-Sa Pan’s award-winning indie film Face (opposite Bai Ling).

 

More recently, Tina starred in Albert M. Chan’s award-winning short film Descendants of the Past, Ancestors of the Future, and has starred in various television programs and specials, most notably, The Final War of Olly Winter (opposite Ivan Dixon), for which she earned an Emmy Award nomination. She has played leading roles in numerous productions on and off Broadway and has also directed a number of plays. On Broadway, she co-produced Peter Nichols’ Passion starring Frank Langella, and received a Drama Desk Award nomination as part of the producing team for Terrence McNally’s The Rink.

 

While pursuing her career in show business, Tina did research for thirteen years as a technician in the Serology and Genetics Department of the New York Blood Center. She also cofounded Food Liberation, one of the first health food stores in New York City, and was a founding member of Women’s Project Theater under Julia Miles. An honorary advisor for the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, Tina is also on the National Council of the Aspen Music Festival & School, and volunteers for Lighthouse International.
