MOCAKIDS Meet & Greet with Author Anna Kang & Illustrator Christopher Weyant

Thu, Dec 3, 2020 @ 4:00pm - 4:45pm

Join MOCA for our very first virtual MOCAKIDS Meet & Greet with award-winning author and illustrator team Anna Kang and Christopher Weyant! Anna will read fan-favorite You Are (Not) Small, as well as It Is (Not) Perfect, the latest book in her beloved series. Then, Chris will walk us through an exciting drawing activity where we'll learn to draw our favorite fuzzy creatures from the books.

What you’ll need: paper and something to draw with. A pencil, colored pencil, marker, pastel, or anything you have on hand will work!

This event is free to the public and all are welcome. To join, simply register here!

Please note that this workshop will be recorded via Zoom and available on Facebook Live.

More About You Are (Not) Small

Two fuzzy creatures can't agree on who is small and who is big, until a couple of surprise guests show up, settling it once and for all!

For more learning fun, check out these free You Are (Not) Small downloads!

More About It Is (Not) Perfect

Two fuzzy creatures are happily putting the finishing touches on their sandcastle when each of them thinks of something that would make it even better. As they work furiously to incorporate each new change, their tiny sandcastle becomes an over-the-top palace…but is it really perfect?

Both books are available for purchase at the Curious Reader and The Strand. They make great holiday gifts!

Anna Kang

Anna was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island where she spent most of her free time reading Teen Beat magazine and Archie comics and going to the local multiplex. Thinking she’d one day become a professor/diplomat/world traveler, she attended Tufts University and studied International Relations and Asian Studies. Instead, she followed her heart and moved to L.A., where she received an M.F.A. from USC's School of Cinematic Arts and discovered what made her happy: telling stories.

After graduating, Anna was selected to participate in the Sundance Institute's Screenwriters Lab with her first feature script, The Lost Tribe of Long Island. All the experiences she has had - personal, professional, creative - lead her to write You Are (Not) Small, her debut picture book. Being able to create it with my talented illustrator-husband, Christopher Weyant, has made the journey all the more rewarding.

Christopher Weyant

Christopher Weyant is a native of New Jersey and an internationally syndicated New Yorker cartoonist, editorial cartoonist, & children's book illustrator.

Chris’ work has been published worldwide in newspapers, magazines, books and online. His cartoons are in permanent collection at The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Morgan Library & Museum in New York City. In 2014, the Nieman Fellowship for Journalism at Harvard selected Weyant to be a Nieman Fellow, the second cartoonist to receive that honor in Nieman Foundation's seventy-five year history.

He is the winner of the 2015 Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for his illustrated children's book, You Are (Not) Small, written by his wife, Anna Kang, and published by Two Lions Press. He has also illustrated That's (Not) Mine, I Am (Not) Scared, We Are (Not) Friends, and It is (Not) Perfect from the same series, as well as a number of other children’s books.
