Election Day Teacher Workshop- Building America, Shaping History: the Chinese & the Iron Road

Tue, Nov 5, 2019 @ 9:00am - 2:30pm

The Transcontinental Railroad dramatically shaped the landscape of the American West and the nation… yet its story too often omits histories of the native and immigrant populations who built it.

Reconsider the impact of Chinese immigrants on nation building by touring MOCA exhibitions, With a Single Step and The Chinese Helped Build the Railroad – The Railroad Helped Build America and exploring primary sources that trace Chinese contributions to the railroad. Then, participate in object-based activities that help you examine how Chinese Americans navigated life in the US in the wake of anti-Chinese sentiment, violence, and exclusion, and reflect on how this history is being reclaimed across the country by historical societies, museums, and other organized projects.

Cost: $20 per participant. Click here for ticket purchase. Coffee & light lunch will be served. Includes 4.5 hours of CTLE credit.
