DJs Chairman Mao and CZ Wang open up their personal record collections to spin all-vinyl sets of deep soul, reggae, hip-hop, disco, house, jazz-funk, and the unclassifiable. Hear the history and feel the warmth of their vinyl selections as these world-class DJs guide us through the “dance music continuum” from past to present.

Jeff ‘Chairman’ Mao (aka Chairman Jefferson Mao) is an author, music journalist, record collector and DJ. He is a long-time member of the creative collective, ego trip, with which he has co-authored two books - ego trip’s Book of Rap Lists, and ego trip’s Big Book of Racism! - and co-created the VH1 reality television series, ego trip’s The (White) Rapper Show. He has worked extensively with Red Bull Music Academy as a lecture and radio host, and radio and documentary film producer. In 2018, he served as associate curator for the Red Bull Arts exhibition, Rammellzee: Racing for Thunder. He has been DJing in New York City for over two decades. As a longtime resident at beloved ’00s venue APT he helmed the funk and soul 45 extravaganza Bumpshop, and he continues to spin disco, modern soul, lovers rock, Brazilian and more wherever soulful sounds are required and desired. He lives in Harlem with his family and his record collection.

CZ Wang grew up on the Musqueam Indian Reserve, south of Marine Drive in Vancouver, British Columbia. Mixed of Chilean and Chinese heritage, CZ is the middle child in a family of seven siblings. As the younger brother to a gold-selling songwriter, CZ lived a musical childhood. He came up b-boying, competing locally and internationally with Body Language crew, part of the Pacific Northwest hip-hop collective, Universal Colossal Gospel (UCG). CZ produced Vancouver’s well-remembered, Love Dancing parties, staged in industrial warehouses, forested parks, and repurposed train hangars. He co-founded the label and collective Mood Hut, facilitating the release of projects from House of Doors, Pender Street Steppers, Local Artist, Hashman DJ, Aquarian Foundation, Jack J, Kinetic Electronics. CZ currently resides in New York City, where he’s actively DJing, working as an engineer (credited on releases by Jexopolis, Sean Nicholas Savage, Wiki, CMON, Regular Fantasy), and putting the final touches on several upcoming releases of his own.
