In light of recent tragedies in California and the impact on the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders community, MOCA is honored to invite Psychiatrist Dr. Annie S. Li, Mental Health Counselor Adeline Zhao, and Licensed Creative Arts Therapist Mika Lee to join us on Wednesday, March 1, from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. for a panel discussion on mental health. In this panel discussion, we will discuss what mental health is, how we evaluate our mental health, how we offer support to our friends and family who are concerned with their mental health, and, most importantly, how to access psychological/psychiatric services and resources. This discussion will be held virtually through Zoom.


About the Panelists

Annie S. Li, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and is currently the Director of the Children’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program at NYC Health + Hospital – Bellevue Hospital Center. Dr. Li has a longstanding interest in trauma/mental health crisis work, and studying the impact of adverse childhood experiences on child and adolescent development. As a Chinese American immigrant, she has devoted her career promoting awareness Asian American mental health needs, including work to identify and improve structural care disparities. She co-founded the Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Asian Caucus and worked to mentor and expand the AAPI child and adolescent psychiatry workforce. She is an advocate for AAPI youth mental health and recently presented to the White House AANHPI Commission Health Equity Subcommittee. Outside of her role as a psychiatrist, Dr. Li also navigates the adventures of motherhood with two young children and is an avid traveler/culinary explorer.

 

Mika Lee, MA, RDT, LCAT (she/hers) is a Registered Drama Therapist and a NYS Licensed Creative Arts Therapist. She is also a Licensed Counseling Psychologist (LCP) in Taiwan and has practiced as an attachment and dynamic based creative arts psychotherapist in a variety of clinical settings in the past twelve years including adult and adolescence inpatient psychiatry, children and adolescence expressive arts therapy center, pediatric inpatient medicine, student counseling center, and private practice. She has served in multiple acute facilities across the NYC Health and Hospitals system since 2011 including Bellevue, North Central Bronx and Elmhurst Hospital. She is a professional member of the North American Drama Therapy Association and a founding member of Taiwan Drama Therapy Association. Mika currently works as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in inpatient adolescence psychiatry at Elmhurst Hospital Center. She runs a part-time private practice on the side providing culturally sensitive care to adults and young adults with immigrant background.

 

Adeline Zhao is a bilingual Mental Health Counselor at Garden of Hope, a non-profit organization serving the Asian immigrant community. Adeline works with a wide range of age groups with the focus on 1st, 1.5, and 2nd generation of AAPI youth, who struggle with identity formation, mood disorders, family relations, and other mental illnesses. Through group and individual therapies, Adeline has helped teens rebuild confidence and restore healthy relationships.
