Summer Festival Brush Painting with Teaching Artist Yu Rong
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival, marks the arrival of summer on the lunar calendar. Let’s welcome summer together by making brush paintings inspired by the scented herbs and festive flowers hung in homes during the Dragon Boat Festival.

About Yu Rong
Yu Rong is a painter and a product designer. She is interested in designing products that are fun to use and creating paintings that are natural and true. She is currently a teaching artist at the Hope Garden Center and MOCA. Check out her work here: www.yurong.work.

Fragrant Fortune with Teaching Artist Shu-Shia
Stuff your own good luck charm! Fold a paper 香包 xiāng bāo and fill it with fragrant dried flowers and aromatic herbs that are sure to please the senses.

Your Biggest Fan
Using paint, styrofoam, and a little imagination, design a printed fan, which you can use to keep yourself cool as you watch the races! Adorn it with special elements like zongzi, dragon boats, waves, a Dragon Boat cheer, and more fan-tastical designs.

Toad-ally Cool Fly Catchers
Toads are one of the five poisonous pests that emerge each year around the Dragon Boat Festival. Create and decorate your own fly-catching toad to protect you all year round.

Awaken the Dragon Collaborative Mural
Add your own special touch to our collaborative dragon boat mural with oil pastels and paper scales. At the end of the festival, we’ll dot the dragon’s eyes to bring it to life!

Don’t Rock the Boat
Design a floatable mini dragon boat from bamboo, pool noodles, duct tape, and more. Will your boat be seaworthy? Test it out in our mini-pool!
